Unlike the hero of his new film Medium Cool, Haskell Wexler isn’t a man hiding behind a camera. A veteran motion-picture photographer, he is in the forefront of new filmmakers who are using the medium to make personal statements. He not only wrote, directed, co-produced and photographed Medium Cool. When he couldn’t get major-studio backing, he mortgaged his home, borrowed money from his family and friends, and financed the picture himself.
