If there is such a phenomenon as The New American Movie, I’d prefer to back the candidacy of Haskell Wexler’s Medium Cool, which opens today at the Town. This is a stunning film, and despite everything in that goes wrong or remains unresolved, I respect it more than anything else I’ve seen this year.
